Abigail Martinez (b.1996 Chicago, Illinois) better known as Canela, lives in Chicago, Illinois. After receiving her Associate in Fine Arts from Harold Washington College (2023), she transferred to her dream school. Her work and art practices have been expanding exponentially ever since. Canela is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts at Elmhurst University (Elmhurst, Illinois).

Canela's artwork carefully balances universal feelings of despair and hope and addresses issues of gender identity, mental health, violence, and politics. It is an extensive and continuous exploration of her mind and body. Canela also enjoys using her art as a healing channel to navigate the pain she experiences individually and collectively.

Undoubtedly, her Latin American heritage greatly influences her creative process. Recent art exhibitions include "Chi through my eyes, 2023" at Southwest Creative Studio (Chicago, IL) and "Spring 2024 Juried art exhibition" at Elmhurst University (Elmhurst, IL).
